The iconic WIRE CHAIR DKR, here edited by Herman Miller, was designed in 1951 by the American design duo Charles and Ray Eames. It’s a dining chair named  "Bikini Chair". Why? 

 

Quantity

The name "Bikini Chair" is associated with the shape of the chair cover, which recalls the minimalist structure of a bikini, with its clean lines and fitted shape. This analogy with the swimsuit contributed to the popularity and recognition of this chair.

It is covered with padding (here it is white leather)  on the seat and back. So we have two pieces: the top and the bottom...

The creation of the Bikini chair by the Eames, two emblematic figures of 20th century design, is part of the post-war context, where designers sought to create functional furniture, aesthetic and affordable to meet the needs of a changing society. 

The Bikini Chair perfectly illustrates this trend with its innovative design and judicious use of materials.
